The stylish jellyfish who ran the Jelly Fresh clothing shop in Splatoon 1 and spoke Inkling with famously creative grammar.
Jelonzo is a jellyfish in a very good outfit. He ran Jelly Fresh, the clothing shop in Inkopolis Plaza's Booyah Base, and he did it with a flair that made him the fashion authority of the first game. He also spoke Inkling as a second language, and his dialogue, rendered in a cheerfully mangled English, became one of Splatoon 1's most quoted features.
The jellyfish
Jellyfish are everywhere in Inkopolis, drifting through the plaza as background characters and, in Splatoon 2, forming a whole community with their own culture and language. Jelonzo is the first one the series gave a personality. He is confident, enthusiastic about clothing, and apparently unaware that his sentences come out sideways. He is also, in his way, an immigrant success story: a member of a species most Inklings barely notice, running the plaza's most fashionable shop.
Family
In Splatoon 2, Jelonzo does not return to the counter. His place at the clothing shop is taken by Jelfonzo, described as a younger relative who has studied the Inkling language from old texts and speaks in an archaic, formal register. Jelonzo himself is said to be away, and he reappears in Splatoon 3's return to Inkopolis Plaza, back at Jelly Fresh.
Character
Jelonzo's charm is his sincerity. He loves clothes, he loves his customers, and he is thrilled every time someone buys something. The language gag never tips into mockery; the game is fond of him, and so are the fans. He is proof that freshness has nothing to do with grammar.
