The tiny, loud, fabulously wealthy rapper of Off the Hook. Champion of Chaos, wielder of the Princess Cannon, and in Side Order, a drone with an attitude.
Pearl is short, rich, and louder than anyone in Inkopolis Square. As one half of Off the Hook, the idol duo that took over Inkopolis News in Splatoon 2, she is the MC: fast-talking, combative, and delighted by chaos of every kind. She comes from money, the Houzuki family fortune, and spent her youth kicking against it in punk bands before she found Marina and, with her, a sound.
Off the Hook
Pearl and Marina met when Pearl heard Marina humming in the Square and roped her into performing. Their partnership is the emotional core of Splatoon 2: an Inkling heiress and an Octoling deserter who complete each other's sentences. Their sign-off, "Don't get cooked, stay off the hook!", is delivered as a two-part harmony. Pearl's contribution to the duo's Splatfest themes was reliably the loud side, culminating in her championing Chaos in the final Splatfest, which she won.
The Octo Expansion
Pearl's finest hour is the end of the Octo Expansion. Having supported Agent 8 by radio through the Deepsea Metro, Off the Hook fly in by helicopter for the battle atop the NILS Statue. When Marina's hyperbombs have done their work and Commander Tartar is about to fire, Pearl unleashes the Princess Cannon, a Killer Wail powered by a voice so devastating that in-universe it is treated as a legendary weapon. She destroys the statue and saves the region.
Side Order
In Splatoon 3's Side Order, Pearl is uploaded into Marina's Memverse as a small hovering drone that follows Agent 8 up the Spire of Order, providing cover fire, commentary, and a steady stream of reminders that Marina is already good enough. The drone form is a joke the game commits to fully, and Pearl's voice is the thread of chaos that keeps the Order Sector from winning.
Character
Pearl is a brat in the best sense: impulsive, loyal, and entirely unbothered by what anyone thinks. She is fiercely protective of Marina, whom she calls by nickname, and she treats the fans as accomplices rather than an audience. In a series full of cheerful idols, Pearl is the one who would start a fight for you.
